10th Grade Reflection

10th grade has affected me by which turned me into a different person. I started off fresh, at a new school. This school, International High School at Sharpstown, is different from my other school. It is a charter school, therefore I must work harder and be more serious about academics to carry out my duties as a student. From the pressure I have with my AP classes, I’ve learned that I can’t handle pressure well. Through my experience, I can overcome pressure with perseverance.
Being the new student, there were many misconceptions about me. One of these is that I’m “smart”. People think this about me because I’m serious about academics and I’m on honor roll. In reality, I’m really not that “smart” I just study and do the work. Another is that I’m very similar to my sister, just because we are twins. We are seen as “clones” because we do everything the same and have a similar personality.
During the course of this year, I‘ve been giving more to my community, because I joined “Chinese Youth Society”. I’ve been doing services for others and helping out with festivals. I even got to perform at a charity place for kids. From all these community events, I’ve learned more leadership and responsibility.
This year alone, I’ve faced many challenges. I took two AP classes and “doubled up” on my science courses. Having to deal with academic pressure came with the success of surviving throughout the course and even having an A in the classes. A lesson I’ve learned from this experience is that managing my time is crucial in an AP class. Without managing time, there would be more stress building up inside of me.
Being in the position of an Assistant Vice President of Production, I’ve became more experienced in business. The experience will help me in the future to which I will be thankful for.  With the leadership I’ve developed from this, I became more independent and reliable. Though it is sometimes stressful, I learned how to deal with the stress and how to make it easier for me the next time I come to a similar situation.
I will move forward with life by having my mind set on a goal. With the goal in mind, there is nothing that can stop me from reaching it. I’ve realized that although I’m at a different school, it doesn’t mean that I can’t get to my goals, it just means I have to find a different way to accomplish my goals.

Freshman Year Reflection

During my amazing freshman year, I’ve created a special bond between my classmates and me. We’ve learned more about each other during our field trips, mostly at ROPES. The best thing about this bond is how we all can relate to each other and we act as if we are siblings, sure we had our fights, but we also had those special moments. The biggest challenge I found this year was creating a bond with my teachers. At first I was nervous about most “student-teacher” bonds, but as the year passed I’ve actually became quit close to some, gaining their trust and having a closer look at how teachers really are.
At the beginning of the year, I was committed to AVID, which required me to commit my time in the community and clubs at our school. When I first started school, I wasn’t committed to after school extracurricular activities. I thought of them as ‘boring’ but, after a while I found these clubs interesting and heartwarming. I will now use these experiences I’ve had in Kempner to improve the community and get into college. I’ve grown close to everyone in Kempner now, like we all deprived from the same tree but as time passed, we branched out, as in we can all relate because we’ve came close from the same ‘tree’.
My favorite piece in my portfolio is my poetry book. The poems I wrote in there express my feelings and remind me of the past that not everything has to be neither good nor bad. By looking at what I’ve wrote in the beginning of the year and the end of the year, I’ve notice my writing hasn’t changed; therefore I will work harder on improving my writing skills. This year, I’ve improved my understanding and comprehension of materials in school, such as my grades in geometry rose up. I’ve learned that even in hard times, keep up and stand throughout it because perseverance and hard work is the key to success.
My freshman year will be one of my most memorable years of my life. It’s because of all the support my teachers has given me, as well as my peers. They believed that I will accomplish any obstacle. For example, they’ve guided me through all my classes and gave me advice. Each step I’ve taken in high school will bring me a step closer to college, independence, and responsibility. With all these factors I will become a responsible individual in the future. I believe that all the choices I’ve made in my freshman year effected me greatly, shaping my character. The present is what affects the future. Whatever I do now will either guide or mislead my future. My choices affect my future, so I’ve learned to make the right choices and persevere. This has given me a giant leap closer to my ambitions of going to college to make a better living.
