10th grade has affected me by which turned me into a different person. I started off fresh, at a new school. This school, International High School at Sharpstown, is different from my other school. It is a charter school, therefore I must work harder and be more serious about academics to carry out my duties as a student. From the pressure I have with my AP classes, I’ve learned that I can’t handle pressure well. Through my experience, I can overcome pressure with perseverance.
Being the new student, there were many misconceptions about me. One of these is that I’m “smart”. People think this about me because I’m serious about academics and I’m on honor roll. In reality, I’m really not that “smart” I just study and do the work. Another is that I’m very similar to my sister, just because we are twins. We are seen as “clones” because we do everything the same and have a similar personality.
During the course of this year, I‘ve been giving more to my community, because I joined “Chinese Youth Society”. I’ve been doing services for others and helping out with festivals. I even got to perform at a charity place for kids. From all these community events, I’ve learned more leadership and responsibility.
This year alone, I’ve faced many challenges. I took two AP classes and “doubled up” on my science courses. Having to deal with academic pressure came with the success of surviving throughout the course and even having an A in the classes. A lesson I’ve learned from this experience is that managing my time is crucial in an AP class. Without managing time, there would be more stress building up inside of me.
Being in the position of an Assistant Vice President of Production, I’ve became more experienced in business. The experience will help me in the future to which I will be thankful for. With the leadership I’ve developed from this, I became more independent and reliable. Though it is sometimes stressful, I learned how to deal with the stress and how to make it easier for me the next time I come to a similar situation.
I will move forward with life by having my mind set on a goal. With the goal in mind, there is nothing that can stop me from reaching it. I’ve realized that although I’m at a different school, it doesn’t mean that I can’t get to my goals, it just means I have to find a different way to accomplish my goals.
